When certificates and secrets expire in Microsoft Entra ID, applications stop working—often without warning. These outages can disrupt critical business services, impact customer experiences, and require emergency intervention to restore.
The Dashboard provides an overview of expiring credentials (certificates and secrets) for app registrations and enterprise applications in Entra ID.
Even the best credential tracking system is ineffective if the right people don't know action is needed. Without targeted notifications, expiring credentials get overlooked, important emails get buried, and application owners miss critical deadlines.
Secrets are password-like credentials that apps use to authenticate. They are only applicable to App Registrations.
When notifications are sent to everyone, nobody takes responsibility. Without clear assignment and tracking, credential renewals fall through the cracks, work gets duplicated, and application owners receive repeated alerts even when someone is already working on the issue.
