Overview

Policies allow you to configure governance for your resources within Microsoft 365. You can apply a policy to a template. This is useful if you want to have different rules based on the type of resource that your users provision.

For example, you might want to have different expiration policies depending if the template is intended for short-term or long-term collaboration. You might want to have more aggressive access reviews for templates that allow users to invite guests.

You can also specify a default policy. The default policy is applied to all resources that are provisioned but don't have an assigned policy. This is useful for all resources that are not provisioned by EasyLife or resources that have been provisioned before EasyLife was deployed in your organization.

The default policy for groups will apply to ALL unified groups in Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), not just groups used for Microsoft Teams.

Policies are enforced by the EasyLife 365 engine. The engine is a background process that runs daily and makes sure that the policy rules are applied to your resources. If something is not configured as expected, the EasyLife 365 engine triggers the configured workflows in the background using the notification settings.
